Resumo

Dairy production is one of the main sources of income for Santa Catarina family farms, and has growth potential for the coming years. On the other hand, for the sector to grow and develop, some industry barriers need to be overcome. Based on the barriers exposedby Bonamigo; Ferenhof and Forcellini (2016) in their literature review article, we aim to empirically confirm this scenario in a casestudy with a dairy family farm. From the data collected in the case study, we performed a content analysis, which served as a basisfor reflection and discussion of the barriers in the dairy sector. Fourteen context units were found, which empirically confirmed thepresence of those barriers. We also identify some advantages that the studied dairy production unit obtained by overcoming thesebarriers, such as economic gains, quality improvement, and competitive advantages.
